[Boan News] Webgate’s All-in-One Flame Detection CCTV Camera Obtains KFI Fire Type Approval Physical flame detection technology based on a dedicated IR sensor
[Reporter Gang Cho-hee] The “all-in-one flame detection CCTV camera” developed by Webgate (CEO Kim Sang-seok) is a network camera that integrates a dedicated infrared (IR) flame detection sensor with a high-resolution visible-light imaging sensor.
This domestically developed SoC-based flame detection camera has recently obtained type approval from the Korea Fire Institute (KFI), officially recognizing its performance and reliability for fire safety applications.
The core technology lies in its dedicated IR flame detection sensor, which detects the unique infrared wavelength emitted by flames, enabling direct detection of explosions or sudden ignition events. Unlike methods that rely on video analysis or AI processing to determine fire conditions, this system physically detects flames through sensors, offering advantages in detection speed and reliability.
The technology is implemented under the patent titled “Network Camera Using a Flame Sensitivity Gauge and Fire Detection Method Using the Same.” It is designed to quantify flame signal intensity, minimize false alarms, and quickly detect fires at an early stage.
A Webgate representative stated, “To prevent malfunction caused by sunlight reflections or external light sources, multiple IR sensors are used, and a dedicated detection algorithm based on more than eight years of accumulated fire data enables optimized detection for each site. This significantly reduces false fire alarms.”
When a flame is detected, alerts are simultaneously sent via PC and mobile applications not only to control room personnel but also to pre-registered users. The system also minimizes privacy concerns by transmitting only video segments before and after an event.
Webgate has also launched its proprietary fire alert broadcasting TTS system, WATS (Webgate Alarm TTS System). WATS receives alarms generated by the flame detection camera and links with existing emergency broadcasting systems, providing a comprehensive fire alert solution capable of real-time multilingual voice announcements during fire incidents.
Meanwhile, Webgate has previously obtained Excellent Procurement Product designation and TTA security performance certification, and with this KFI type approval, the company has officially expanded its applicability in fire safety and disaster prevention sectors.
